Description
Invitational Show by Waverly Street Gallery Guests Artists

Artist: Karin Birch
Title: Meandering Course
Medium: Hybrid medium combining hand embroidery, beadwork, and acrylic paint on linen.
About the Piece:
The act of hand stitching thread and beads is a slow and repetitive process that affords the space for uninterrupted thought. The act of painting is spontaneous, in the moment, physical movement. Combining these two opposite states gives form to endless exploration into the mystery of being. I work intuitively, mining personal experiences, energy, movement, nature, and the occasional external interruptions of politics. I use this medium of minutiae as a practice for connecting with the vastness.

Artist: Selena Clare
Title: After The Bath
Medium: Acrylic on Birch Board
About the Piece:
Impressionists loved painting the intimate, domestic scene of a woman drying off after a bath. Here, I paint a similar scene of my spouse. The piece is a playful nod to that impressionist tradition, but depicting the beauty of a visibly queer body in this moment is also a political act.

Artist: Rosemary Fallon
Title: Language of Clouds
Medium: Monotype, acrylic paint with pastel pencil on Strathmore Bristol paper
About the Piece:
I have been intrigued by the cloud formations of late autumn and winter, especially when they are low on the horizon with shifting clouds and light seeping through. The clouds and light are a couple in a dance together that offer a meditative calmness.

Artist: SangHee Jeong
Title: Playful Chicks with Auspicious Energy
Medium: Acrylic paint on canvas with hybrid medium, including mesh fabric and gold foil.
About the Piece:
I love to express child-like, simple playfulness through my painting. I painted a series of three paintings of playful chicks, and this is the first of the series. A theme of Korean traditional culture is weaving all three paintings together, so you can see some items of colorful Korean artifacts in each painting.

Artist: Kristina King
Title: Untitled (med_41), 2015
Medium: Pulp paint on black artist-made handmade paper
About the Piece:
My work explores the paradoxical nature of the strength and fragility of paper as a medium. I was drawn to papermaking as a way to combine my installation, sculpture, and drawing practices using one material.

Artist: Beverly Ress
Title: Summer Garden
Medium: Colored pencil on Vellum
About the Piece:
This drawing is made with colored pencil on vellum film. The drawing is done on the back side of the vellum, so that they are seen through a kind of "scrim".

Artist: Redeat Wondemu (Red)
Title: Hillwood in Fall
Medium: Canson Edition Itching Rag
About the Piece:
Red uses different materials like gelatin silver, platinum palladium, and cyanotype to take her photography to a level beyond just pictures, turning it into a captivating way of telling stories visually.
