Kanika Sircar

Kanika Sircar makes spare, elegant ceramic vessels, boxes and wall tiles and uses the visual impact of writing and notation as a frequent source of imagery for her work.

Her forms refer to books, pages and crumbling walls, their surfaces stained with slips, marked with carving tools, pencils and iron prints. Line and color are layered with fragments of text, graffiti or bygone maps, often faded and indecipherable, palimpsests of shade, shape and meaning that may be read but not always literally.
