Paintings inspired by local landmarks and landscapes

 by

Madeleine Greenwald

March 2 - March 29, 2025

Maddy Greenwald grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland painting the local landscape. She attended BCC high school where she painted the decades mural in “C” building capturing the tumult of the 1980’s.  Her first solo show was at Art Master’s Gallery on Montgomery Avenue in Bethesda. She studied art at the University of Wisconsin but became a lawyer and took a several year hiatus from painting to work in women’s health advocacy. She always knew she would return to her passion of painting. After treatment for breast cancer in 2016, she was determined to live her dream and began the journey of becoming a full time artist.  As a Toronto based artist until 2022, much of her work focussed on capturing the uniqueness of the Canadian landscape. Maddy returned to Maryland in 2022 and she is thrilled to return to her roots, capturing the beauty of the DC region.  Maddy’s paintings have received numerous awards, been exhibited in galleries throughout the US and Canada and been acquired by collectors in the US, Canada, and Europe.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Using bold and vibrant acrylics, I create dynamic landscapes that capture the beauty of nature and everyday moments. From the soft glow of sunrise to the bustling energy of city streets, I capture the magic of life's simplest moments. Each piece is a reflection of places that speak to me, encouraging a deeper connection to the natural beauty in our daily lives.

Returning to Bethesda in 2022 after 10 years away, painting was a way to reconnect to my hometown. So much has changed since I was a kid growing up in Chevy Chase and even since I was a young mom raising my children in Potomac, but  much has remained the same.  I have loved rediscovering my hometown by painting it.  The DC region is many things, but I wanted to paint those places that make it home.
